Futuristic Footwear

It is a truth universally acknowledged that I have a thing for anything metallic. 
You can only imagine the joy when, after a period of taking a break from online shopping, I take a look around and find all these beautiful, BEAUTIFUL silver specimen across cyberspace.

Lately I really have been drawn more towards heels that will be sturdy – “chunky” is too strong a word. Stilettos can wait. (Although there are still some great silver pumps lurking around… Curious? Look no further than here.)

These are a few of my favourites right meow.

Fashion in Brisbane: The Happy Cabin

I wandered into this store after noticing a little blackboard sign on the rustic wooden front door saying “Curious?” The only way I knew how to describe this shop after finding it was: “just perfect”. What a wonderful little world to stumble upon! Only about five months old, and the whole atmosphere of the shop was peacefully nostalgic. Bon Iver played softly and I was transported to another time. Also the shop assistant Hannah invited me to a Wes Anderson themed party that night – go figure.

At first I took notice of the clothes neatly hung on homemade wooden racks. Brands such as Somedays Lovin, and one-off, hand-picked vintage bags, shoes and other items. Venturing further into the store there were men’s SKULLS snapbacks, sneakers, socks and backpacks, and a variety of shirts, trousers and shorts. I loved the beautiful, simple cotton women’s NICO underwear pegged onto string amongst wool pom-poms. The centre table in the shop had a few pairs of cute clogs, nice clutch purses and envelope-style bags, woolen cactuses (!!!), jewelry and other quirky, fun items. Of course the table was on an animal carcass mat. I loved the arrangement of big scented candles on a wooden ladder.

Amongst the selection of clothing, accessories and curios were perfectly suited paintings and drawings hanging, stacks of old books and suitcases, old wooden ladders, chairs and tables, cactuses and other plants, vintage lamps and globes, paper decorations hanging from string, all creatively and immaculately placed. What impressed me the most was the great visual merchandising of it all. It wasn’t hard to realise the shop owner Leah is the genius behind it all. I could tell everything in the room was carefully chosen.

If you find yourself in Brisbane, take a trip down to the West End. You’d be crazy not to experience this.

For The Love Of Dries

The Dries Van Noten show made me very happy.
The mixing of fabrics, the slouchy masculine vs. feminine combinations, and the uptown meets Kurt Cobain vibes.

I’m going to find some checkered pumps and a plaid shirt ASAP.
These are my absolute favourite looks (most of the show).

A Chilled Summer

There was a beautiful simplicity to the A Détacher Spring 2013 show.
Mona Kowalska showed us pieces that were unique in structure and effortlessly stylish.
I was struck by these few looks.
Firstly the opening look:

The bold colour and perfected knot detail demands attention. The shoes round the look off as effortless.

The clashing of these fine prints is tied together with colbalt blue detail. Or worn separately, the pants would look stunning with a loose cotton shirt or button up.
The shirt is so interestingly constructed. The knotted volume is reminiscent to me of Vivienne Westwood, but also of innocent gingham dresses. I’m blown away.

Gingham continues, and Mona perfects the pyjama-chic look. The construction of the print and the direction messes with my mind a bit. In a good, gentle way.
I’d happily wear this all Summer long.

Having said that, these shorts make my dreams come true. Lately all I want is loose fitting, knee length shorts. The slight transparency on the shirt is innocently sexy. I’m loving this.

This just yells 90’s vibes out to me. Perfect!
Spaghetti straps, metallic handbag, strappy footwear – although I’m not 100% sure what’s going on there.
This dress is what I would be wearing out every night.
The strap of material off the hem is interesting.
Jewelry has seemed unnecessary to me lately. Maybe because it gets upwards to 35 degrees somedays now here in Sydney. Or I’m just bored of the jewelry I do own.

Looking forward to scoping the online stores out for some of these pieces come overseas Summer!

I remember checking out her website about a year ago and asking myself “How exactly does one become a casting agent?” It does seem like a brilliant job to have. She is also a fashion consultant.

Anyway I have decided to update this site more regularly as a way to understand exactly what I am interested in, fashion, music, and culture-wise. Because I regularly confuse myself.

I have taken some photos from her blog Tales of Endearment, which houses beautiful galleries of photos as she updates throughout her travels to interesting cities and documents her outfits, friends, shopping, and new fashion collections. I.e. my dream life.

I am so inspired by her use of colour and shape. What a well-dressed woman!
She really does seem to be full of life. The way she blends vintage with new pieces of clothing is something I aspire to do well at. Go Joos!

While we’re on the topic of earrings and quirky themes of jewelry, it seems appropriate to bring Betsey Johnson into the conversation.

Although her brand filed for bankruptcy, she is still overseeing her jewelry and I couldn’t be happier. Not only is it affordable, she has truly unique, fun design ideas unlike anyone I have seen.

Yes I did add a sneaky ring, but who can deny themselves of a party skull with fruit on it’s head?! Fantastic!

And yes we have discussed my love of any fashion resembling food. I would have to say this is the reason my favourite of this selection of jewelry is the pineapple drop earrings.

Insects and other animals are also wonderful. How cute are the little hippo heads! That is not a question.

Originally this set was going to be a compilation of all my “recently viewed” items on farfetch.com however Polyvore is very generous so the situation got a bit out of control.

Lately I haven’t been wearing jewelry except maybe the occasional necklace. Maybe it’s because of the fact that I’m bored of all the rings, bracelets and necklaces I’ve been piling on for the past years.

In recent weeks I have been really into the look of a casual shirt and fairly casual outfit with beautiful, big coloured crystal earrings.

Oh, to comfortably afford some Erickson Beamon.

Strongly recommend that perfume too.
