Vintage Emporium

In this post I’m going to tell you about when I went to a Vintage Fashion Emporium!

This is a treasure trove of one-off men’s and women’s vintage clothing, accessories, jewelry as well as collectibles, homewares and furniture. I never even knew it existed until my lovely friend invited me to visit it! It’s the complete lower floor of the Sydney Antique Centre, Surry Hills. We didn’t spend much time on the main floor – we must have spent hours in the vintage! But there is a small cafe and I saw the main floor had a lot of jewelry, furniture, books and things like that.

(N.B: there are a lot of photos in this post, so bear with me.)

Around the bottom floor are small vintage boutiques, all with individual owners and different vibes. But always beautiful and cool items to be found!

There is a vast mix of clothing, the majority for women, and it was clear the pieces originated from all over the world. Fur, embellishments, kimonos, Western, the list could go on. Pieces ranged from streetwear to extravagant to elegantly polished. From hats, bags, scarves and gloves to shoes, sunglasses and jewelry in a huge range of styles and eras, we treated to ourselves to what felt like an afternoon going back in time. I vowed to never shop anywhere else again.

I really liked this boutique, The Vintage Drawer. (Clicky click!)

We stumbled upon one of the boutiques named Retro Station. They update regularly about events on their Facebook page!

A few nice homewares below. I’m not even sure if I’m using the word “homewares” correctly – all I know is it’s probably a good thing that buying things for my living space is low on my priorities. I am definitely saving a fair amount of money by not having the urge to buy many home things.

A casket wine-cellar? Amazing.

I liked this cute end table with the illusion of books in it.

This magical space is open seven days, 10am – 6pm.

Find it on the lower level,
Sydney Antique Centre
531 South Dowling Street
Surry Hills, NSW, 2010

They host a Vintage Fashion Bazaar in the Emporium, on the first Saturday of each month. I’m yet to visit it; I’ve been told it is a great day where the gallery rooms in the centre of this lower level are filled with vintage pop-up shops, high tea, music and fun times. Definitely on my to-do list.
